Deepwater Horizon A Review

Deepwater Horizon A Review

deepwater_horizon_filmI have a friend that works on oil rigs all around the world. I think he is away from home 30 days at a time. He does intricate work in oceans of deep water with every kind of weather you could imagine.

The Deepwater Horizon well was in the Gulf of Mexico and was a state of the art rig. Who could imagine anything going wrong?

Director Peter Berg takes a remarkable cast and tells a compelling story based on the terrible day of April 20, 2010.

Deepwater Horizon (2016) is a great film that will be best enjoyed on the big screen.  Julie and I enjoyed on the huge IMAX screen at the Warren Theater in Moore, OK.

Deepwater Horizon A Review

I was able to watch a “behind the scenes” short on HBO that showed the actors up close and talked about how the film was made. According to this interesting preview the filmmakers built the oil rig from scratch. They even had real oil field workers train the cast in how to work with the pipe and drill and the equipment.

This film portrays very recent history. It was the worst environmental disaster to date. Eleven crew members were killed. Execs with BP were prosecuted. Billions of dollars in fines have been paid. It was a terrible tragedy. Could it have been avoided? You can watch the film and decide for yourself.

I believe that Deepwater Horizon (2016) was a tribute to those who died. I think it was a fitting way to show what a working oil rig looks like and the interaction of the crew and officials.

I highly recommend this movie.
