Summer Vacations I Remember from the 60s

Vintage Road Maps

My dad called me “The Professor” when I got
old enough to read a road map.

I could help him navigate the highways, state roads
and the new Interstate Highways of the 60s.

Some places we went as a family include:

  • Carlsbad Caverns
  • Crater of Diamonds State Park
  • Grand Canyon
  • Redwood Forest
  • Huntington Beach, California
  • Hot Springs, Arkansas
  • Miami, Florida
  • Six Flags Over Texas

My dad checking his car. Towing my ’59 Renault from California to south Texas.

When my sister lived in California we made our
way out there. My brother-in-law sold my dad
a ’59 Renault for me to drive to high school.

We towed it all the way back to Ingleside.  My
dad was very gracious. I was told Mom & Dad
got a real “deal” on toilet paper and filled up
the little black Renault and brought that TP
down to south Texas.

Well, at least it sounds like a good story.
