The Rock That Doesn’t Roll – The Lost Tapes Project

The Rock That Doesn’t Roll –
The Lost Tapes Project

LarryNormanHere is a song that was recorded live at Chimney Lane Church of God.

The band is Last Days Light Band. We were our church’s band, meaning we played a lot on Sundays and represented the church when we did other venues and street ministry.

There were different configurations of the band. Here is the group on this recording:

Chuck Whetstone – guitar/keys/vocals
Harvell Smith – keys/vocals
Chuck Bingham – bass
Richard Watson – drums/vocals
Lynn York – acoustic/vocals
Doyce Smith – percussion/vocals
Bruce Liberatore – electric guitar

This straight to tape recording features Chuck Whetstone on lead vocal, Harvell Smith on backup vocal, Chuck & Bruce take turns with the guitar solos, and Lynn York does a great vamp at the end of the song.

Other members of the band [in various years, etc] included Jeff Childs (piano/vocals), Toby England (sax) and Beth Hunt (trumpet/keys). Our sound man who also recorded this song was Art Kleiderer.

LarryNormanBootlegThe Bootleg album was the first record that I bought of Larry Norman. It is full of classic Norman songs.

You can see Larry on YouTube and various sites.

He has passed away, but he was a great influence for Christian Rock music.

Words & Music by Larry Norman

I was lost and blind, till a friend of mine came and took me by the hand
Then he led me to His kingdom, which was in another land
Now my life is changed, it’s rearranged
When I think of my past I feel so strange
Wowie zowie well he saved my soul
He’s the rock that doesn’t roll

He’s the rock that doesn’t roll
He’s the rock that doesn’t roll
Well He’s good for the body and great for the soul
He’s the rock that doesn’t roll

2. I was all alone, like a rolling stone
I was going nowhere fast
I was on the road so far from home
When the future touched my past
Now I feel so blessed, cause he gave me a rest
And I finally feel like I passed the test
I wanna be like him, yes that’s my goal
Like a rock that doesn’t roll

3. I was lost and blind till a friend of mine came and took me by the hand
Then he led me to his kingdom, that was in another land
Now my mind is blown, my head has grown
A solid rock ain’t a rolling stone
Wowie zowie, well the cat’s got soul
He’s the rock that doesn’t roll
