Who Do You Think You Are

Who Do You Think You Are

My friend, Sam Crowley, always says:

You were born an original. Don’t die a copy!

In the 1990s I purchased a book called An Enemy Called Average by John Mason.

It was a great little paperback and I still have it in my library. I was just doing a search for it and found that John has updated it and expanded it. I can’t wait to purchase the newer version of one of my favorite reads.

Regardless of where you are in life, how much you have or have not accomplished, God is not finished with you yet!

And that’s what I have been thinking about. God, the Source, the Universe, whatever…has not written the final page of your book. You will not be finished until you draw your last breath! Until then, let’s get busy on YOU!

Who Do You Think You Are

Who Do You Think You Are is a television series on TLC where celebrity guests learn about their ancestors. It’s fascinating and oftentimes enlightening for them to read genealogical findings about some distant relative.

My dad always told me that the name Whetstone came from Switzerland. I was also told we were part Cherokee because of my grandmother’s ancestry. (My cousin said her dad told her we were Choctaw).

Well, I did a DNA test. I purchased the kit on sale, I swabbed the inside of my cheek, did what the directions said, and mailed it off.

Several days, maybe a few weeks later, I received my results in the mail. Guess what?

Yes, I had a small amount of American Indian blood. But, the surprise came when the information said that our origins were in Great Britain. Cool.

But who do you think you are?

Who Do You Think You Are

Do you think of yourself by the labels that others give you? Such as:

  • You’re always late
  • You’re too fat, too slow, too skinny, too old…..
  • You’ll never become anything
  • You’re not smart enough

Three quick Bible stories – Joseph, David, and Jesus.

  • Joseph told his dreams to his family. The family, including his parents, could not believe what he was saying and would not accept it. They said, Wilt thou indeed be a king over us? wilt thou indeed rule over us? (Who do you think you are, Joseph?)
  • David was sent his father to see how his brothers were getting along in the battle and bring them some food from home. His brothers said (Who do you think you are, David?) – Why art thou come down? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride and the naughtiness of thy heart;
  • Jesus – Coming to His hometown, He taught the people in their synagogue, and they were astonished. “Where did this man get such wisdom and miraculous powers?” they asked. “Is this not the carpenter’s son?

You might try something and people ask you, “Who do you think you are?”

You know, as long as you are breathing, you can make a new start. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel, but you may have to work on your Brand. Remember what Sam said – Don’t die a copy.
